Deaf and disabled young people at Inter-Action in Milton Keynes worked together and with musician Tom Billington to create this song and animation called Desiderata. Desiderata means ‘desired things’ in Latin and this word fitted the creative needs of the group as they express their opinion that ‘everyone has their own desiderata’ and that these should all be met. They have shared their films with a group in Russia who are creating a response, watch this space to see their ideas on this campaign….

Inter-Action is an inclusive Arts Centre, which works with a variety of groups in the local community. The group of young people building this campaign have come together to form the beginnings of a steering group to support the design and creation of new projects at Inter-Action. Their first job has been to use their creative and expressive skills to build a campaign together. They started work at the beginning of January with a songwriter and a filmmaker creating and recording lyrics, signs, and images to help them communicate their ideas.

The young people at Inter-Action in Milton Keynes have been working on creating a campaign inspired by their local area. They feel that Milton Keynes is more accessible than other places in the country and appreciate and value some of the decisions made when Milton Keynes was first designed. They are making a campaign to share their opinion that ‘access is more than buildings and ramps’. They are looking for support in changing attitudes to disability and awareness of the needs of people who are deaf or have a hidden disability, addressing the basic desire for acceptance and understanding.
