Interchange 2010

In 2010 Creative Junction, in partnership with Hlanganani, delivered Inter-Change: an international programme for young people in the Thames Valley, running from 8th-25th March and offering collaborative creative activities to young people aged 14-25, their peers in other countries and creative practitioners. The theme was shelter. The main event was a conference held on Thursday 18th March 2010 at Taplow Court, Maidenhead.
More than 200 people from schools and organisations from across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire came together to share and develop their understanding of global issues at an engaging and stimulating international conference. Case studies from young people’s partnerships in South Africa, India, Malawi, Uganda, and Europe amongst others prompted the young delegates to consider their place in the world and their role as global citizens and leaders. A hugely participatory day left them feeling informed and invigorated and the conference, named ‘Inter-Change’, was just the beginning with many international partnerships now being explored and initiated by those young delegates.
A year on and collaborations and ideas are still flourishing, as seen in some examples in the attached report

Hlanganani Learning Partnership and Creative Junction have been delivering programmes of work on global citizenship for a number of years to deepen awareness and exploration of identity and local and global issues. In the lead up to 2012 games it is timely that this event will provide a platform for a bigger number of young people across the world to exchange ideas and explore structures for sustainable communication and dissemination and provide a springboard for future developments.
Inter-Change is contributing to the South East’s principal objective for 2012 games, relating to young people, ‘Create, Compete, Collaborate’.
